We were there for the Grand Opening of the Great Smoky Mountain Cannabis Company in Cherokee, NC on April 20 . The opening was the first time that marijuana could legally be purchased in North Carolina. Despite clouds and rain, the event was filled with positive energy as lines extended out of the 10,000 square foot dispensary. The Great Smoky Cannabis Company is run by Qualla Enterprises, LLC, an entity of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI).
Forrest Parker, Qualla Enterprises, LLC general manager and an EBCI tribal member, said during Saturday’s opening, “It’s important to remember that our people have always been in communion with our natural resources. These mountains are older and wiser than us, and our elders are too.”

While a new cannabis tradition was starting in the mountains of North Carolina, a large diverse group of enthusiasts gathered in NYC to celebrate. The event epitomized what BBG hopes to reflect in our coverage – the fusion of diverse people, with a shared passion for and the business realities and opportunities that exist.
